ASTM A333 Grade 6

ASTM A333 Grade 6refers to low-temperature carbon steel pipe that is specially made to keep the steel structure's quality and its ability to be shaped in very cold environments. This grade is included in the wider scope of the ASTM A333 standard for low-temperature service. It is distinguished from other grades as a result of its specific chemical composition and the impact test requirements at -45C (-50F). It has a maximum carbon content of 0.30% and a manganese range of 0.29% to 1.06% by which required toughness for cryogenic application is provided. It can be made by both seamless and welded processes, but the pressure resistance of the seamless ones is generally higher.

The outstanding handiness of the pipe is what makes it a trusted candidate in different critical, diverse, and far from the warmest conditions, areas of the world. Those places, where the pipelines are installed deep under the earth, are the main applications zones for the oil and gas, petrochemical, and power generation sectors. Being the perfect material for the building of pipelines that will have to carry cryogenic fluids such as liquefied natural gas (LNG) is one of its examples.

Because of its high tensile and yield strength, Grade 6 pipe is found in oil refining, chemical plants, and refrigeration systems where high pressure and low temperature exist simultaneously. On condition that the ASTM A333 Grade 6 is a low temperature product, it is not very wise to use it at high temperatures because it is a completely different range of products which is mostly defined in standards such asASTM A106 Grade B.
